Security Studies Scholarships

The ECU Security Studies Program has received a generous donation from a former student, which has been converted into scholarships for ECU Security Studies Students.

The Undergraduate Security Studies Program

  • 10 scholarships worth $1,000 each
  • Eligibility: Security Studies Majors, minimum GPA of 3.0, rising Junior or Senior
  • Deadline: January 15, 2024

The Security Studies Study Abroad Scholarship

  • 2 scholarships worth $2,000 each
  • Eligibility: Graduate or Undergraduate Security Studies students, minimum GPA 3.0, must have been accepted into an ECU Study Abroad program for 2023
  • Deadline: January 15, 2024

The Graduate Security Studies Scholarship 

  • 5 scholarships worth $2,000 each
  • Eligibility: incoming MS or Certificate in Security Studies student, minimum UG GPA 3.2
  • Additional funding for second year available if a 3.2 GPA is maintained
  • The deadline for new students who started the program in Fall Term 2024 or intend to start in Spring Term 2025 is December 13, 2024.The scholarship applications will open on November 1, 2024.

All applicants must submit a 1,500 word essay on the following question:

“Is the United States an empire in decline, and if so, what it could mean for US foreign policy and US national security?”

Recipients of a scholarship will receive the award in two installments over two semesters during which they have to be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours in each semester.
